All poured out
Count up the bottles
Stack 'em up by 10
Sour taste in my mouth
Trying to swallow
Striking out again
Oh I heard the shouts
Saw the hazard signs
Writing on the wall, dark as sacred wine
Winner takes it all, but you were my truth
On you, on you I'd stake my life
Tell me that you love me
Even as you're walking away
There's nothing left to do, clear as 200 proof
Yeah I get it
You've been hurt too
Can you tell
This isn't the first time we've been round the bend
Ever since I was young, lighting the sky up
Until you say when
Amber in my veins
From my eyes, my skin
Gave up every drop to keep you within
Emptied and spent, no one ever says
What comes after the end
Tell me that you love me
Even as you're walking away
There's nothing left to do, clear as 200 proof
Yeah I get it
You've been hurt too
The cut is getting close now
I think I need to sit down
Can we just count it out
Wings are made to fly free
But obvious ain't easy
When it's last call closing
Tell me that you love me
Even as you're walking away
There's nothing left to do, clear as 200 proof
Yeah I get it
You've been hurt too
All poured out
Count up the bottles

about
The dorsal and palmar sides are the two flat sides of the hand:
✦ the upper protective side, often exposed to the elements and speckled with freckles and knuckle wrinkles and little baby hairs,
✧ and the webbed inner, where fingers curl in and close ones clasp and life lines get read.
"All Poured Out" came to me one night in the middle of 2020, when I was feeling just really really down and lost. I’m guessing almost everyone’s felt that way, some time some how, during these COVID pandemic years.
While this song may seem on the sadder side, I actually think there's a hopeful lilt to it. The chorus is written in a way where either "party" could be singing this, alluding to how we often feel the same things, and what seems like a separation could be a point of understanding. What seems like an ending can still lead to a beginning.
This song is also influenced by a part of my life where my hands were directly affected. They held these physical stresses that I was feeling, but that were submerged in the undercurrent of my heart and mind. Even though I didn't *feel* like I was so stressed or unhappy, my hands were telling me otherwise, almost shouting at me to pay attention.
All together, thinking about hands and feelings and the two sides of everything, led me to wanting to take the traditional "single" format of a song with an A-side and B-side, and explore a song with those sides being like the two different sides of the same hand.
So here is one song, two ways: the dorsal and the palmar.
I hope a part of you feels heard in at least one of them ♥
