about
Today, March 8th, is International Women's Day. I found out about this holiday recently, and for some reason, maybe it was the spark of doing Dressember just a few months ago, I felt especially compelled to record and release this song.
I wrote "Broken/Prevail" back when a dear friend of mine was going through an extremely difficult time. When someone you love is dealing with a painful event, oftentimes all you can do is be there for them and love on them. This song was written out of wanting to support her somehow, and I hope in the same way it can now support other women everywhere.
........
Observed since the early 1900s, IWD has its roots in advocating for the political and human rights of women everywhere, and today is an official holiday in a number of countries. Find out more about IWD here: www.internationalwomensday.com
lyrics
BROKEN / PREVAIL LYRICS
She's broken
She's sweet
She always wanted
to believe
That love would prevail
That good tips the scale
That it could happen
for me
And her world is crashing down
No no, it crashed that night
In an unknown town
In an unseen fight
No way out
If only waking made things alright
She's broken
She's torn
She doesn't know
How to be anymore
So she counts through the days
Warding dark with a phrase
The madness threading her core
And the words stay on repeat
Cause the threat, it never leaves
Staving panic at the door
And her world is crashing down
No no, it crashed that night
In an unknown town
In an unseen fight
No way out
How morning proved worse than the night
"No" should have more to show than just your tears
Cause a world where monsters roam makes truth of all your fears
(I said) "No" should have more to show than just your tears
Cause a world where girls fight alone makes truth of every fear
I see you
It happened
And I see the mark it made
It's crazy
But you're still you
Greater than anything he can take
